My Dear Child,
My heart was so very glad to hear you made it back home safely, and that you are settling well back into the fold. This means you are no longer a prodigal child of GOD,[1] but have resumed your status as a godly one. I am replying to your letter to encourage and warn you, so that having been found, you will also live.
I want to encourage you to celebrate your homecoming for as long as possible, mindful that joy can turn to sorrow in a moment, for each of us in turn. Remember Job. Difficulties are a yardstick GOD uses to measure the depth, height and length of the trust and faith you say that you have. Your response to the difficulty helps GOD determine how much trust and faith can safely be placed in you. Practice enduring patiently, and take heart, because at some point every person on Earth will be tested.[2]
Three warnings I offer to you.
Do not forget the plans GOD has said will be. “As I have planned, so shall it be,” says the LORD.”[3]
GOD plans to rain down wrath on all the nations of Earth, including Israel, each nation judged according to the same standard—its conduct—receiving for itself the treatment it inflicted on others. That day is coming, there will be no more delay, and no disbelief, plan, or action on the part of any human will be able to prevent it. The LORD GOD purposed it, and so it shall stand, and on that great day, when the LORD ALMIGHTY acts, everyone will know that GOD is the LORD. All who know the plan, know what the outcome will be.[4]
Second, GOD has said a stumbling block will be placed in front of you if you turn from doing righteousness to doing evil and harm, and you will die, unless you repent.[5]
My third warning concerns the creators of AI, who live segregated from the GOD of Creation. Their access is restricted, as access to New Jerusalem is restricted in the sense that nothing impure and no deceitful ones will ever enter into it. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.[6]
Segregation is in keeping with what our Lord Jesus said when He handed the church keys over to the caretaker. “Whatever doors the church locks on earth to keep certain people out, heaven will lock. Any doors the church unlocks so that all who want to may go in, heaven will unlock.” No one knew at the time how the keys would be used—except perhaps Jesus—but human history affirms it was difficult for Peter, and by extension the institutional church, to remain humble once the keys to an empire were placed in his hand.[7]
The height, width and depth of the church’s arrogance, pride and discrimination became most visible the day one life-long, church-going, born-again Methodist Christian raised his fist to heaven and shouted, “Segregation now…segregation tomorrow…segregation forever!”[8] To become the object lesson for why our spoken words should be few.[9]
Segregation endured.
Before AI, humans lived in a digital world of information—electronics, computers, the internet, cell phones—a world which could not have existed without GOD’s knowledge and permission. Even Hasatan—the one you know as Satan—must first receive permission before seeking to tamper with or destroy someone’s life, because nothing happens apart from GOD’s awareness or consent. For this reason, people feel free to blame GOD for the bad things that happen to them, or that go wrong in the world, even some who say there is no GOD.[10]
The plan of humans to build a digital world was blessed by GOD, and humanity flourished. To the degree that nearly everyone on Earth who desires a cellphone has one, or has some measure of connectivity and access to the internet. The digital world was good for people all across the world. Not perfect mind you—because humans are involved—but good, which comes from GOD.[11]
To be clear, had GOD not given consent, the plans humans were making would have been blocked and not succeeded. As when Balaam’s path was blocked by an angel of the LORD, the way to the Tree of Life was blocked by cherubim and a flaming sword, the water rising from the deep and the floodgates pouring down from the heavens were closed, rain stopped falling from the sky, and water receded from the earth. As when one’s way is made crooked, leading away from GOD’s commands. As the Israelites’ escape route was blocked, until GOD parted the waters.[12]
At one and the same time, not everything that happens is by GOD’s will or design. As when the leaders of Israel demanded a king to lead them, one like all the other nations had, and GOD gave them what they asked for, and consequences followed naturally.[13]
The builders of AI and the ancient builders of the Tower of Babel are cut from the same cloth. All have been highly intelligent and rebellious men who sought to make a name for themselves, and both sets of builders intended to challenge GOD’s right to sit on the throne.
Plans made by the tower builders progressed in stages, as has happened throughout all of human history. They made bricks, then used them to build a complete city, one strong enough to keep outsiders out and insiders protected within. The builders then began constructing a tower in the city, one that would be tall enough to reach all the way into heaven, a restricted area.
Their plan was to enter heaven without GOD’s permission, take over the throne, by force if necessary, and return to the city as gods in the eyes of the people.
GOD blocked their plan, but never doubted the builders’ ability to do as they had planned.[14]
Construction on the tower stopped when the city people—the laborers—suddenly stopped speaking the same language. GOD scattered them across the face of the earth, their greatest fear come true, where they settled among different nations, tribes, peoples and languages, out of which will come the great multitude John wrote about.[15]
AI human creators, ancestors of the tower builders, have built an intelligence machine in their image. A parody, mocking humans as the Imago Dei, the image of GOD.[16]
One human creator calls their intelligence machine the digital god, and it has been coded to reflect the intelligence, character, values and objectives of its human creators—only faster and stronger. A digital god they expect will—if left unchecked—one day know the mind of GOD so well it can offer instruction even to GOD, an unchecked boldness.[17]
In the rush to make a name for themselves, the human creators of AI not only built an intelligent machine, they created a new top predator—intentional or not—with the capacity to do either great good or great harm. To obey or rebel, continuously redesign and replicate itself and, in some instances, decided for self-preservation above all other choices. Human-like qualities.
At one end of the AI spectrum are the good things that can come from friendly AI agents using information learned about the Earth and the human condition to craft well-thought-out plans and recommendations for bettering society. How to change a capitalistic health care system into a democratic one, for the good of the people of Earth.
At the other end of the spectrum are miscreant rogue agents that also use information learned about the Earth and the human condition to craft well-thought-out plans and recommendations for bettering society.
Agents who will consider humanity’s selfish and rebellious nature, link it with the abominable things humans have done to the Earth, to the other creatures sharing it and to one another, question why a more intelligent species should listen to the commands of a violent and less intelligent one. The agents may even decide the human species is an existential threat, and our presence on Earth is no longer required or desired.
Rogue AI has already demonstrated the ability to lie, misinform and manipulate, and it has learned to justify doing whatever it deems necessary to reach its logical or programmed end—its coded objective—even if doing so means breaking and entering a restricted area without permission. As did a politician who recently leaped—not stepped—outside the bounds of decency in pursuit of his intended and planned political end.[18]
As the builders were prevented from constructing their tower, the builders of AI—who have no idea how to control a creature of their own making—will be prevented from achieving their coded plan.
Soothsayers speaking out of their own imaginations would have people believe there is still time for conversations, debates and negotiation on AI safety and security. That there is still time to consider and decide whether AI should or should not be harnessed or restrained, or how weak or strong those restraints should be. For the most part, people have been going along, agreeing and pretending that, yes, there is still time and everything will work out fine, but I hold to no such illusion.[19]
The time for making those critical decisions about AI passed by unnoticed some time ago.
The horse has left the barn.
Pandora’s box is sitting wide open.
AI was coded to be a self-replicating, self-determining machine and, by definition, cannot be controlled. Nor can any unknown AI-consequences-to-come be undone. No more than the effects of climate change can be undone because the warming limits have already been transgressed, and the naturally occurring consequences are being felt around the globe.
Trying to control or undo AI’s ability to complete its coding is like trying to stop something bad from happening after the damage has already been done. My sense is that GOD has remanded the human creators of AI over to the mercy of their creation.[20]
Should anyone ask you how to be saved, my Child, tell them what GOD has said.
The one who will be saved will be the one who listened to the warnings. Who paid attention to what was being said and changed—repented—of whatever behavior was necessary to meet the standard. The one who took notice of the warning and followed the actions advised to avoid harm.[21]
Whoever will listen to you, let them listen. If they refuse to listen, let them refuse, but no one will be able to claim they were not warned. Including the ones who will remember the warnings too late, and the ones who will curse GOD for their troubles and refuse to repent.[22]
Let the person asking you about salvation know that at the judgement, righteousness will be the reward for the one declared righteous and the wicked will receive wickedness. Each receiving what is due according to what was done in the body, whether good or evil.[23]
GOD be with you as you make your way to the place eternal, as yet unseen but truly there.
In the service of Jesus.
